We are currently searching for a Wind Climate Scientist/Engineer
Primary Duties:
- Determine analytical scope and approaches for wind and climate aspects of engineering projects
- Identify representative climate data for project sites and engineering studies and evaluate and perform quality control checks
- Work with Atmospheric Scientists to identify extreme weather events and classify into storm types in historical datasets
- Perform basic and advanced statistical analyses, such as parent distribution and extreme value analysis on wind and snow data
- Interpret wind loading provisions in building codes
- Determine and recommend design wind speeds and other climatic design criteria to be used for design of buildings, structures and solar arrays
- Advanced analysis techniques, tooling, and processes used by the Weather & Climate Insights team
- Write technical reports and communicate findings to engineers and clients
Education and skill requirements:
- Degree in Engineering or similar
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and MATLAB
- Knowledge of advanced statistical methods
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Any of the following is considered an asset:
- Knowledge of extreme weather processes or atmospheric boundary layer engineering
- Knowledge of the Solar Renewables industry
- Knowledge of building code provisions for wind and climate loading
- Familiarity with GIS and\or databases, SQL
Pay Range: $60,000 – $122,000 per year
