The EY Centre

The EY Centre | Sydney, Australia
Completion Date: 2016

Project Overview

Standing over 150 meters tall, the EY Centre demands attention for its striking exterior. Completed in 2016, the rounded shape and beautiful timber hue allows the tower to pull away from the grayness of its neighbors.  EY Centre is part of a multi-structure, integrated laneway, with buildings of many heights, public passages, and outdoor features such as wine bars, cafés, and kiosks.

Why CPP

CPP played a major role in the structural and comfort integrity of the building’s design, a feature that EY Centre won numerous awards for. Like many component-based development projects, CPP had to consider strong winds and their effect on the EY Centre and neighboring objects. CPP tested for pedestrian comfort as well as structural and cladding design.

“Structural load testing made sure the entire tower could withstand wind forces,” said Bourke. “We also examined loads on core, and how people inside would experience any wind-induced movement.”

The project also came with many moving targets. A proposed 250-meter building to be located immediately adjacent to the EY Centre was also a major topic of study and recommendations. Iterative testing was completed until final plans were completed. CPP remained involved with the project for almost a year to ensure its success.
