Dr. Maryam Refan

Dr. Maryam Refan has more than 10 years of experience in various technical and leadership roles at engineering consulting firms as well as research facilities. Her technical experience ranges from hands-on research to full management of multiple projects in the field of wind engineering. Maryam has led and commissioned several wind testing facilities and has extensive experience in measurement techniques. Over the course of her career, Maryam has overseen wind tunnel testing of some of the most complex tower designs, landmark structures, and long span bridges.

Maryam holds a PhD in Wind Engineering from the University of Western Ontario. She is the recipient of some of the most prestigious awards and scholarships in her field including the Richard Marshal Award for Best Doctoral Thesis Related to Experimental Methods from the American Association for Wind Engineering. As a member of the Wind Loads Subcommittee, Maryam has made significant contributions to the newly updated ASCE/SEI 7-22 Standard (Minimum Design Loads and Associated Criteria for Buildings and Other Structures) and has played a major role in introducing the first-ever criteria for tornado-resistant design of buildings and structures.
