Cermak Peterka Peterson (CPP) is a global engineering consulting firm specializing in understanding and managing the effects of wind on structures, infrastructure, and the built environment. We work with developers, owners, engineers, architects, manufacturers, and operators to understand how wind interacts with their structures and assets and to translate that understanding into practical engineering guidance that supports safer, more resilient, and more cost-effective designs.
Our work spans buildings, renewable energy, transmission infrastructure, and other wind-sensitive structures. CPP combines deep engineering expertise with boundary-layer wind tunnel testing, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), advanced numerical modeling, field measurements, monitoring, and data analysis to solve complex wind-related problems throughout the lifecycle of an asset, from concept and design through operation, performance evaluation, and failure investigation. CPP has been providing wind engineering consulting services worldwide for more than 40 years.

Role Summary
CPP is seeking a Director of Renewable Energy Forensic & Remedial Engineering to build and lead a new service line focused on investigating, diagnosing, and resolving structural and performance problems on solar and other renewable energy assets. This is a senior, highly entrepreneurial seller-doer role for a self-directed technical leader who can access CPP’s existing client network, identify and win new engagements, personally deliver forensic and remedial engineering work, and grow and mentor a team of CPP engineers across CPP’s global network to support and scale the
practice over time. CPP already has deep, directly relevant technical capability in wind loading, structural performance,
and failure investigation for solar racking and other renewable energy structures. The Director will translate that capability into a coherent, client-facing service offering covering site investigation and root cause analysis for damaged or underperforming systems, remedial engineering design, specification review and enhancement to reduce future failures, technical due diligence and procurement support, and related advisory services. The role is expected to combine hands-on technical delivery with business development, team building, and long-term practice leadership.
Success in this position depends on a specific profile: an entrepreneurial self-starter who treats this practice as their own and drives it with urgency and ownership; a credible forensic engineer who can walk a damaged site, diagnose root cause, and speak confidently with clients, contractors, and manufacturers; a natural business developer who can open doors within CPP’s existing network of developers, owners, EPCs, and manufacturers; and a patient team builder who can recruit, train, and mentor engineers across CPP’s global offices as the practice grows. Operational / Practice Delivery (approximately 70% of day-to-day activities):
- Client Engagement & Opportunity Origination: Leverage CPP’s existing client network of developers, owners, EPCs, and manufacturers to identify, originate, and win new forensic and remedial engineering engagements.
- Site Investigation & Root Cause Analysis: Deploy to damaged or underperforming project sites to investigate failures, assess conditions, and determine root cause, drawing on CPP’s wind engineering, structural, and field investigation expertise.
- Remedial Engineering & Design: Develop and deliver remediation plans and design solutions in partnership with CPP’s technical teams to correct identified failures and prevent recurrence.
- Specification Review & Procurement Support: Review and enhance technical specifications used in procurement to reduce the risk of future failures, and advise clients on design, material, and installation quality considerations.
- Technical Due Diligence & Ancillary Advisory Services: Support pre-purchase or pre-investment technical due diligence, performance validation, and other ancillary advisory services as client needs are identified.
- Proposal & Pipeline Management: Own the end-to-end commercial process for forensic and remedial engagements, including scoping, pricing, proposal development, client follow-up, and forecast accuracy.
- Delivery Oversight & Quality Assurance: Personally oversee and, in the early stages,
directly perform delivery of engagements, ensuring technical quality, client satisfaction, and timely completion. - Client & Industry Presence: Build CPP’s visibility and credibility in this space through client-facing content, technical presentations, industry conferences, and thought leadership.
- Internal Coordination & Delivery Alignment: Maintain close coordination with the CTO, sector/service line leaders, Business Development, Marketing, Finance, and Legal so that commercial commitments align with technical capability and delivery capacity.
- Field Safety & Site Protocols: Ensure safe, professional conduct during site investigations, adhering to CPP and client safety requirements, including work involving heights, active job sites, and damaged structures.
Strategic / Team & Platform Building (approximately 30% of day-to-day activities): - Team Building & Mentorship: Recruit, train, and mentor a team of CPP engineers across CPP’s global network to support and, over time, scale delivery of the practice beyond the Director’s individual capacity.
- Practice & Service Development: Formalize the methodology, tools, templates, and playbooks needed for consistent, repeatable delivery of forensic and remedial engineering services.
- Platform Expansion: Evaluate opportunities to expand the practice into additional renewable asset types, geographies, or adjacent services, and provide input on whether needed capabilities should be built organically, hired, or partnered for.
The Director partners closely with the CTO and has a strong dotted-line relationship to the CEO, while collaborating with sector/service line leaders, Business Development, Marketing, Finance, Legal, and project delivery teams. The role is expected to combine hands-on technical delivery and business development with the patient, long-term work of building a durable practice and team.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Structural, Civil, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline; Professional Engineer (PE) license valued.
- Renewable Energy / Solar Technical Experience: 10+ years of experience with solar racking systems, PV structures, or related renewable energy assets, including design, field engineering, or forensic investigation.
- Forensic & Root Cause Investigation: Demonstrated experience diagnosing structural failures, damage, or underperformance in field-deployed structures.
- Remedial Engineering: Experience developing and implementing remediation designs and fixes for damaged or underperforming structures.
- Specification & Procurement Knowledge: Familiarity with renewable energy technical specifications, procurement processes, and manufacturing quality considerations.
- Wind Engineering & Structural Credibility: Working knowledge of wind loading, structural dynamics, or related mechanics relevant to renewable energy structures; experience with wind tunnel testing or CFD is a plus.
- Client Relationship & Business Development: Ability to build credibility and relationships quickly across CPP’s existing client network of developers, owners, EPCs, and manufacturers, and to identify and develop new opportunities.
- Entrepreneurial Mindset: Demonstrated ability to build something from the ground up, operate with high personal ownership, and drive results with limited initial support.
- Team Building & Mentorship: Experience recruiting, training, or mentoring engineers, with genuine interest in building and developing a technical team over time.
- Communication & Executive Presence: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to represent CPP credibly with clients, contractors, and manufacturers at both technical and executive levels.
Travel: Willingness and ability to travel approximately 30–50% of the time domestically and internationally, including deployment to damaged or underperforming project sites as needed.
